Chapters and Dynasty Reputation
The closest thing to a progression spine. Ten journal chapters that pay Dynasty Reputation and raise your build limit, and the reputation gate that controls how big your village can grow.
At a glance
| No boss gate | Progress runs on chapters, reputation, skills, technology, and the seasons. |
| Chapters | Ten numbered journal quests. Each pays reputation, many raise the build limit. |
| Reputation | The master settlement gate. Higher reputation lets you recruit more villagers. |
| Banishment | Reach -10,000 Dynasty Reputation and you are banished. The game ends. |
Dynasty Reputation measures how popular your dynasty is in the valley, and it gates how big your settlement can grow. Chapters are the structured path that pays most of it.
Dynasty Reputation
- Gain it by completing chapter quests, story quests, and side quests. Chapters give the largest chunks.
- Lose it by being caught stealing (small loss), killing a farm animal in a village, failing a timed quest, or not paying taxes. Missing taxes costs 1,000 reputation (a large loss).
- Find it in the Management tab.
- Hard floor: -10,000 reputation banishes you and ends the game.
The ten chapters
Each chapter is auto-added to your journal, not handed out by an NPC. Before Chapter I you must finish “Starting a New Life” with Uniegost in Gostovia to unlock building. This list is sourced from Valley guides; the Oxbow may differ.
| # | Chapter | Reputation | Build limit after |
|---|---|---|---|
| I | A New Beginning | 15 | 5 |
| II | A Survivalist | 30 | unchanged |
| III | Good Morning My Neighbors | 75 | 10 |
| IV | Into the Wilderness | 150 | unchanged |
| V | A Farm | 375 | 20 |
| VI | The Resourcefulness | 750 | 25 |
| VII | Starting a Community | 1,125 | 35 |
| VIII | A Big Game | 1,500 | 45 |
| IX | Newcomers | 2,500 | unchanged |
| X | The Dynasty Continues | 5,000 | 65 |
Build-limit jumps are attached to specific chapters; some chapters raise reputation without raising the cap. The build limit also depends on your overall reputation level. The exact mix of chapter reward versus reputation level is not fully pinned down in the sources.
The dynasty and heir
- Chapter X requires a wife and an heir. Marry by raising affection to 100 percent and proposing; she moves into your house.
- Pregnancy lasts three seasons (nine months), with birth the following season, then about two years as a caring mother before the wife returns to work (per TheGamer).
- When a child turns 18 they become your heir and take over the village when you die. This is the multi-generation hook.
Watch out for
- Skipping “Starting a New Life” and being unable to build.
- Overspending and having no coin for Spring taxes, costing 1,000 reputation.
- Getting caught stealing, which dents reputation (and flags the goods as unsellable in that town).
- Letting reputation slide so far it threatens the -10,000 banishment floor.
